The annual Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF) is once again nearing and we are very happy to announce that ‘Relentless Drag’ has been nomimated for a couple of awards in the 26th Village Road Show Studios Queensland New Filmmakers Awards (QNFA). One nomination is for the Liquid Animation Best Animation (Producer) and the other is the QPIX New Talent Award.
We are also excited about being nominated for the RAWards - the first annual Indie Arts Awards in Australia. Having been selected to be a part of the official international launch of RAW:Natural Born Artists earlier in the year, it is an honour to have been also been nominated for this competition. Live voting and showcasing will be happening on the 23rd of November.
We’ll keep you posted on how we fared in these awards. Just being nominated for them is amazing!
Last Saturday, Relentless Drag, was a part of Shorts in Paradise at Surfers Paradise Festival on the Gold Coast, Australia. We were selected as top 15 from the 90 submitted films from around Australia. The other films were all of such a high quality, and we felt honoured to be a part of the selection.
We also ended up receiving the Audience Choice Award for the night! Such a great achievement! One of the judges who is part of organising the Gold Coast Film Festival loved the film and is submitting it to the festival for next year.
Stay tuned for the interview we had at the RAW event a couple of weeks ago.
Being a part of the RAW:Natural Born Artists international launch in Brisbane, Australia last week was a huge achievement for the RD team! Our film screened at the ‘Oh Hello’ nightclub along with fashion, dance, visual art, make-up and hair exhibits. It was amazing being in such a compact space with so many people, enjoying beers, candy floss and popcorn, while watching our film on 3 screens around the venue.
We will post up our fashion photos and RAW interview as soon as we take a peek at it!
Next exciting event for our crew is attending the Gold Coast film festival SIPFest this Saturday. We were one of the top 16 films in Australia selected to be a part of the festival. Exciting times!
Troy and I had an absolute amazing experience at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year!
‘Relentless Drag’ was a part of the Short Film Corner at the festival. It was such an honour to have this opportunity to present our film on a world stage. We had so much fun promoting our film and networking with other filmmakers from around the globe every night at the Short Film Corner and parties, and during the day there was always mingling happening at different parts of the festival.
We saw a bunch of films throughout the festival, walked the red carpet and saw many celebrities. It was so great being in one place with such a huge amount of people, all passionate about film!
The whole festival was such a big learning curve for us, as we learnt more about the qualities that people look for in great films (especially from viewing the 2012 Short Film Palme d’or selection), networking, the Australian film industry and most definitely the international film industry. An animated film from the Cinefondation selection that we really admired that’s definitely worth checking out is Timothy Reckart’s, ‘Head Over Heels’
We are now so motivated to share our experience with others, and inspired to start work on our new projects so that we can return to Cannes over the next couple of years.
Since we’ve been back in Australia it’s been such an honour to be selected as a Staff Pick on Vimeo, being invited to be a part of the RAW event in Brisbane and also the Surfers Paradise Festival held on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Exciting times ahead!
Cannes Film Festival is happening over the next fortnight in Cannes, France, and ‘Relentless Drag’ is going to be a part of the Short Film Corner! We’re so honoured to be a part this spectacular event.
Director, Troy Duguid, and Producer, Liana Beukes, will be attending the festival to support the film. They are both very excited at the prospect of meeting some very inspirational and influential people in the industry, and exposing this film on an international level.
